Family sessions are genuinely one of my favorite things. Kids who come back for a second session will run up and give me a hug, and honestly that never gets old. I keep it relaxed and fun, let kids lead a bit, and what you end up with are real expressions from a day they actually enjoyed.

The Experience

The family session

These sessions are a fun and memorable experience, lasting up to 90 minutes - I promise it moves faster than you’d think. Parents are always a little surprised by how much fun their kids have. I keep it relaxed and low-key, and what comes through in the images is exactly that.

We blend lifestyle moments with some traditional family poses, usually at one of the most beautiful spots in the Twin Cities or surrounding suburbs. I pick locations that give us variety in backgrounds, light, and texture so your gallery feels full and interesting. Most sessions are within 1-2 hours of sunset, but if that timing doesn't work for your kids, we'll figure something out that does.

Studio sessions have more flexibility with timing and lean into classic portraiture with clean backdrops and simple wooden props. They also always include my signature black-and-white child portraits.

The Day In The Life Session

I come to your home for about four hours and just document your life. It sounds simple, because it is, but there's so much beauty in the ordinary stuff. The morning light in the kitchen. Kids playing in the yard. The chaos of getting everyone ready. I'll gently shape a moment here and there so it still feels real, but mostly I'm just following your family around. This one also works beautifully for a day at the cabin.

Extended Family Sessions

I only take a handful of these each year. Every extended family is different in size, energy, and what they're hoping to walk away with, so I'd rather just talk through it with you directly. Reach out and we'll figure out the details together. These typically run about four hours.

Pricing

Family sessions start at $350 for mini-sessions and $850 for custom sessions. I recommend a custom session if you’re looking to create an album or a larger gallery of images. Some families do digital images, others wall art and or an album - both are just fine!

The most frequently asked questions about our family sessions!

  • Family sessions start at $350 for mini-sessions and $850 for custom sessions.

  • Simply click the "Request a Session " link, select your session type, and preferred date. If the date is available, I will confirm, and once the retainer is paid, I’ll send out for pre-session information like the questionnaire and prep guide.

  • Cloudy weather is preferable, but rain or strong winds are not! If we need to cancel, we will work with you to select a new date for the session.

  • Yes! We love having the family dogs at sessions. Please check with us to ensure they’re allowed, but most of the locations we use permit dogs.

    TIP: Arrive early and let your dog get familiar and sniff around well before the session. Also, tire your dog out before the session!

  • Usually, children do very well at these sessions because they’re low-stress, and I love working with kids and making them feel welcome.

    Please follow the advice to avoid putting pressure on children. Don’t ask them to smile or to continually repeat the directions I give. Trust the process! I may ask parents to step out of eyesight briefly.

  • We have a generous cancellation policy. If you are unable to attend the session, it may be rescheduled, based on availability, or kept as a credit to use towards any other session. The retainer is nonrefundable but may be applied toward another session of any kind.

  • Your image gallery will be delivered within two weeks of your session.

    You may select images/products online, and I am happy to do a gallery review and ordering session with you via Zoom.

  • I offer only the finest products available. Choose from prints to fine art albums and wall art.

    The albums, folio boxes, and image boxes are made at alb in Europe.

    The Gallery wraps are from Guild, widely known to be the best available, and I have access to slim profile, which most photographers cannot order.

    The frames are, and the fine art prints are from the premier lab for these items in the US.

    We do not sell the typical albums and artwork you see in the industry. These will last for generations.
