The newborn photo session
This session is such a sweet and memorable experience, and often the beginning of a wonderful photography journey. Choose from a shorter newborn session to a full-length session, with special setups for each parent and sibling. Done in the studio, which is kept warm for the baby and provides all of the beautiful props, fabrics, and newborn outfits needed.
These sessions are done in my Minneapolis photo studio. We have a lounge area, a parking lot, a restroom, and a great coffee shop across the street!
After booking, you’ll receive a questionnaire, and we can then discuss your color and session preferences. I’ll have everything ready when you arrive at the studio, and we’ll walk through all the setups and fabrics and make any needed changes. The sessions are baby-led, so your baby will never cry or feel uncomfortable. We will stop as needed for feedings.
Best time for newborn photos
The ideal time to photograph a newborn is within the first 5 to 10 days old, when the baby is still sleepy and flexible for those adorable, curled-up poses. For premature babies, photos are often taken at their adjusted 5-10 day age, and these sessions are always successful. We can photograph babies a little older, though this may limit the poses we can achieve. I often photograph babies that are 3 or 4 weeks old, and the sessions go very well, so please don’t feel pressured to do the session earlier than you’re comfortable with.
Full-length newborn photo sessions typically last 2 to 3 hours, allowing time for feeding, changing, and comforting your baby. Time goes by quickly, and it is a really sweet and memorable experience.
Styling & Prep
While many clients are drawn to my signature style and ask me to design their sessions, I’m happy to have a call to plan the styling with you in advance. When you arrive at the photo studio, we’ll review the selections and make any necessary adjustments. After booking, you’ll receive a prep guide including tips for what to wear. I’m always happy to assist with wardrobe questions and am available to help at any time.
You’re welcome to bring a special item or family heirloom to incorporate into the session. If you have a rainbow baby or another significant experience to share in the session, we can plan to discuss how best to incorporate it into the photo session.
Image Delivery
Within 10 days of your newborn photography session, the online preview gallery will be ready to view. This is where you’ll see your retouched images for the first time and select your favorites, choosing between digital images, artwork, or a combination of both to build your collection. Purchased digital images are delivered via your private online gallery with long-term access.
Every newborn session is planned with safety, comfort, and simplicity in mind. You’ll be guided through scheduling, preparation, and image selection to make the entire process easy during an already full season of life.
Baby Plan: Documenting The First Year
Your newborn session is often the beginning of years of documenting your family's story. The Baby Plan is designed to capture your baby's first years, offering a savings of 20-30% compared to booking individual sessions. Contact us for Baby Plan pricing and options from 4-6 sessions.

The most frequently asked questions about our newborn sessions!

It’s best to book at least two months in advance to guarantee availability when your baby arrives.
The photo session is best done at 7-14 days old, but this can vary widely depending on birth weight, prematurity, and your preference.
I have photographed many preemies at two months, and the sessions have been amazing. I have also photographed 6-week-old babies with great success. We can discuss what is best for your family.

Just yourselves, a few extra diapers, and be prepared for an extra feeding or two.
A prep guide will be sent out, but rest assured, we have everything needed for the photo session.
You are welcome to bring special items, please just let me know ahead of time.

I understand things come up, so I do not charge for the first cancellation. The full retainer may be used towards another date or even a different session type.
If your baby is born early or late, that is expected, and the booked date is simply a placeholder that is adjusted once your baby arrives.

Yes! We love having the family dogs at sessions. If your dog is calm, they are welcome to stay. If not, I ask that they come just for their photos.
Sometimes, I’ll photograph the dog and baby separately and compose them together. Each is different; we do what is safest for your baby.

Not to worry, it is extremely rare for a session not to be successful. Only twice in 10 years have I had to reschedule after a baby was too fussy.
I have many years of experience and can create beautiful images whether or not your baby is sleeping. I also have tricks to help them be calm and sleepy!

We do not provide raw files or unedited images. The gallery will be culled down to 25-35 images. All will be retouched. You can select and download the quantity included in your package, and there is an option to purchase additional photos.

Your image gallery will be delivered within two weeks of your session.
From there you can select and order in the online store, or I am happy to have a Zoom gallery review and ordering session.
