The newborn session is such a sweet and memorable experience, often the beginning of a wonderful photography journey together.

What to expect

Newborn photo sessions take place in my Minneapolis photo studio and last 2 to 3 hours. That may seem like a long time, but it will go by quickly! It’s a calm, baby-led process. We’ll do several poses with your baby in props and/or on the posing table in outfits and wraps. Then we’ll do family photos and special setups for mom with baby and dad with baby. If there are siblings, we’ll also do a special setup for them.

The session is baby-led, allowing for breaks as needed to keep your baby calm and content. Poses are never forced, ensuring your baby remains comfortable and safe throughout the session. Babies usually sleep through the session, but if not, it’s not a problem; we’ll still create a beautiful gallery of images.

When to Book Your Newborn Photo Session

It’s best to book your newborn session a few months ahead to ensure availability and proper planning, but we do our best to accommodate last-minute bookings, too. We recommend scheduling the session for when your baby is between 7 and 21 days old, as this is when they are still curled up and sleepy, making it easier to achieve those signature newborn poses.

However, I have successfully photographed many older infants, including preemies, who sometimes have their sessions done 8-12 weeks after birth. When scheduling your photo session, we’ll select a date based on your due date and adjust as needed once your baby is born.

Parents and siblings are always included in our newborn photo sessions, ensuring the whole family is part of these cherished memories. Grandparents, aunts, etc. are also welcome!

My Minneapolis photo studio is conveniently located off 94 and Broadway, with free parking, a dressing room, and elevator access. It is fully equipped and offers a beautiful selection of fabrics, wraps, newborn outfits, bonnets, and props for your newborn photo session. We encourage you to bring any special items you’d like to include, often a blanket or keepsake from a grandparent. Every detail is thoughtfully chosen to create stunning, timeless photos you’ll cherish forever.

What to Expect

Every session is unique, but my goal is always the same: to make your experience smooth, enjoyable, and stress-free from beginning to end. You'll receive clear communication, thoughtful guidance, and timely responses throughout. All details—including pricing—are shared upfront, so you can book with confidence.

  • We’ll start with a quick phone or Zoom call so I can learn more about your goals and vision for the session. I’ll walk you through how everything works, answer any questions, and go over pricing and artwork options. There's no pressure—just a relaxed conversation to see if we're a good fit.

  • Once you're ready to move forward, you’ll pay a retainer to secure your session date. I’ll guide you through the next steps and make sure everything is clearly laid out, so you can feel confident and excited for what’s ahead.

  • You’ll receive a session prep guide that covers everything—from what to wear and what to bring, to what to expect on the day of your session. You’ll also receive a detailed product and pricing guide so you can begin planning (and dreaming!) about how you’ll display your beautiful images.

  • Whether in my Minneapolis photo studio or on location, your session is designed to be relaxed and stress-free. I’ll guide you every step of the way so you never have to wonder what to do. We'll create a variety of images—from classic portraits to more natural moments—so you have a rich gallery to choose from.

  • After your session, you’ll receive a link to schedule your Zoom gallery review, which will take place 7–14 days after your session.

    During the gallery review, I’ll walk you through your images and help you select your favorite ones. We’ll also review product and package options for your final purchase and show mockups of albums, wall art, and other keepsakes.

  • Once you purchase your selections, I’ll deliver your images through a private online gallery. From there, you’ll be able to download your files and enjoy long-term access.

    Any products you’ve selected will be created and ordered at this time—delivery timelines vary depending on the item.
