The newborn family photo session takes place in our Minneapolis photo studio, lasting about 2-1/2 to 3 hours. We prioritize a baby-led approach, allowing for breaks as needed to keep your baby calm and content. We never force poses, ensuring your newborn remains comfortable and safe throughout the session. With a variety of posing options, we adapt to your baby’s preferences, whether they prefer lying on their tummy or side. Safety is our top priority, with advanced techniques like composite images ensuring secure, serene poses like the ‘foggy pose.’ Most babies sleep through the session, but even those who stay awake still capture beautiful, memorable images.
Our Minneapolis photo studio is fully equipped and offers a beautiful selection of fabrics, wraps, newborn outfits, bonnets, and props for your newborn photo session. We encourage you to bring any special items you’d like to include, often a blanket or keepsake from a grandparent. Every detail is thoughtfully chosen to create stunning, timeless photos you’ll cherish forever.
When to Book Your Newborn Photo Session
It’s best to book your newborn photography session a few months ahead to ensure availability and proper planning. We recommend scheduling the session for when your baby is between 7 and 21 days old, as this is when they are still curled up and sleepy, making it easier to achieve those signature newborn poses. However, we have successfully photographed many older infants, including preemies who have their session done 8-12 weeks after birth. When scheduling your photo session we’ll select a date based on your due date and then adjust as needed once your baby is born.

Booking a newborn photography session with Lisa Poseley Photography is more than just scheduling a date; it’s the beginning of a carefully planned and personalized experience designed to capture your baby’s earliest moments beautifully.
Before the Session:
After booking, you’ll receive a detailed session prep guide. This guide covers everything you need to know before your session, including tips on what to wear and what to expect. I’m always available to answer any questions and help you feel prepared.
On the Day of the Session:
Arrival and Preparation: When you arrive at the studio, we start by ensuring your baby is comfortable and well-fed. While you take a moment to settle in and feed your baby, I’ll review the session plan with you. We’ll discuss the setups I’ve prepared and make any necessary adjustments to ensure the session reflects your personal style and preferences.
The Photography Session: The majority of the session time is dedicated to photographing your baby. We’ll work through a variety of poses and setups, capturing those precious early moments. Parents and siblings are always included in the session, and we’ll create special setups for each parent to capture those intimate family moments.
Special Touches: Toward the end of the session, we’ll capture the popular black-and-white baby mug shots—a favorite among many of our clients. These unique images highlight your baby’s expressions and details in a timeless style.
After the Session:
After the session, you can relax knowing that your baby’s first memories have been captured beautifully. I will carefully edit the images to highlight every perfect detail and provide you with a gallery that you will cherish for years to come.

I do love the initial consultation. It's a quick call/Zoom and a nice way to meet when choosing a photographer.
Sessions start at $650 including the photo session and digital files. We also offer beautiful products like albums, prints, wall art, and gifts.
The consult is the best way for Lisa to share all the session details and to understand your needs and goals from the photo session.

After the consultation we will send you a proposal to walk you through an easy online booking process.
After booking you will receive a brief questionnaire, a session prep guide, and a link to your online portal where you can access invoices, emails, and prep guides.

In the studio, we have everything needed for your newborn and toddler sessions and many silks and dresses for your maternity session. We can have a call to plan your session and Lisa can advise on wardrobe.

I highly recommend that Mom has hair and makeup done for the session. Whether you go on your own or bring your stylist into the studio. For newborn sessions, Mom can be pampered and prep for family photos while we photograph the baby.

The day of the photo session should be fun and stress-free! Leading up you will have been given everything you need to prepare. Newborn sessions are baby-led so we take breaks as needed.

Within 10 days of your session your proofing gallery will be ready. Choose to have a gallery review and ordering session with Lisa via Zoom or view & select your images in an online private gallery.
Digital image packages start at $650, there is no session fee, most clients invest $1500 or more. We also offer only the finest albums, prints, wall art, and other products.

Digital images will be retouched and available to download within two weeks of ordering. Any products ordered will be delivered to your home. Your private online gallery is available long term so you can download and share anytime!
