The Newborn Photo Session

The magic of newborn photography is done exclusively in our Minneapolis photo studio. These sessions are often the beginning of a beautiful photography journey for families. I am always so honored to be chosen to photograph a client’s newborn baby and strive to provide the best service and quality possible. The infant photoshoot is especially sweet. While it may sound long, it goes by very quickly. Often, tears are shed watching your sweet baby in the adorable newborn outfits and poses.

Timing

The ideal time to photograph a newborn is within the first 5 to 14 days after birth, when the baby is still sleepy and flexible for those adorable, curled-up poses. Our Minneapolis studio provides a controlled, warm, and calm environment perfect for your baby’s comfort and safety. For premature babies, photos are often taken at their adjusted 5-14-day age and are always successful sessions. We can photograph babies a little older, although this may limit the poses that can be achieved.

Newborn photo sessions typically last 2- to 3-hours, allowing time for feeding, changing, and comforting your baby. The time goes by quickly and it is really a sweet and memorable experience.

Styling & Prep

While many clients are drawn to my signature style and ask me to design their sessions, I’m happy to have a call to plan the styling with you ahead of time. When you arrive at your newborn photoshoot, we’ll review the selections and make any necessary adjustments.

After booking, you’ll receive a prep guide including tips for what to wear. I’m always happy to assist with wardrobe questions and am available to help at any time.

You’re welcome to bring a special item or family heirloom to incorporate into the session. If you have a rainbow baby or another significant experience to share in the session, that is something we can plan to discuss on how to address it best.

After Your Session

Within ten days after your newborn photography session, we will review your gallery of images via Zoom. This is where you’ll see your retouched images for the first time and select your favorites, choosing between digital images, artwork, or a combination of both to build your collection. Purchased digital images are delivered within one week via your private online gallery with long-term access.

We’ll review the timing of delivery for any purchased images/artwork during this meeting. For albums, you can expect an album proof within one week with the opportunity to make changes.

Your purchased images will be accessible with long-term gallery access, access to our professional print store and card designer, allowing you to order additional prints and custom cards directly from the manufacturer whenever you wish.

Our studio offers a beautiful selection of fabrics, wraps, newborn outfits, bonnets, and props for your session. Our Baby Plan: Documenting The First Year

Your newborn session is often the beginning of a wonderful friendship and many years of documenting your family's story! Our exclusive Baby Plan is designed to beautifully capture your baby's remarkable first year, offering a savings of approximately 30% compared to booking individual sessions. This comprehensive plan can include a maternity session, followed by milestone sessions at 4, 7, and 12 months, documenting every giggle, crawl, and first step. These ages are the perfect time to capture your baby’s milestones, from crawling to sitting to standing at their first birthday. The One-Year-Old session is typically conducted as a birthday cake smash session. We especially love seeing these little ones return for their first birthday cake smash session!

These are some of the most memorable photos from the session, with unique setups for each family member. Often, young siblings attend the session solely for their portion, but they are welcome to stay for the entire session.

Can we bring our dog?

Yes! We love dogs, and they are welcome to join the session; after all, they are part of the family. Depending on your dog's temperament, they may stay for the entire session or just for their portion. In the interest of safety, the dog and baby are sometimes photographed separately and then composited together into one image.

What should I bring to the studio?

You and your baby! We provide all props, wraps, and outfits for the baby. We recommend being prepared for extra feedings, bringing pacifiers (even if you don't use one regularly, it can help with soothing during the session), and snacks or drinks for yourselves. There is also a great coffee shop downstairs. We’ll send a detailed prep guide upon booking.
